Memorial Day at Camp Floyd

On Memorial Day Mom & Pops & I went to Camp Floyd to see some Civil War reenactors, explore a period encampment, and tour a museum about the camp and the Pony Express mail service that used it as a stop along its route to the west coast. Aunt Amy & Uncle Kevin met us there.
As you can see, we had fun.

Here's me investigating the encampment and looking very military in my Union soldier kepi hat.

I don't know why all those Civil War soldiers complained in their diaries about cramped conditions – their tents seem very roomy and spacious to me.

Here's a stage coach. I brought home a "special smeared & smelly souvenir" from those horses on my shoes and my pants, much to Mom & Pops' dismay.

This game is appropriately called "Ball in Cup." Below you'll find a demonstration of how you play.

"Ball in Cup" in action.

In this series of pictures, Pops gets to inspect . . .

load . . .

and fire an authentic replica Civil War-era 1861 Springfield rifled musket.

All in all, it was a great day. If you have a couple of days to spare, ask me about Camp Floyd – I'll talk your ear off.

Michael...you must have been in "hog heaven"! Looks like a very interesting place and lots of fun. I want to go! That tent is just right for the Grantster. People were sooo MUCH smaller in the olden days. Miss you guys!! Thx 4 the new post.
